About me
Who writes here, and on what basis.
I'm Oleg Andreev. I live in Portugal and I'm on haemodialysis. The kidney diet is not a topic I picked — it's the arithmetic I do every day, in supermarkets, in restaurants, and on the days when I'd rather not do arithmetic at all.
Why I build renalee
I started renalee because the tools I could find counted calories, and the numbers my clinic cares about are potassium, phosphorus, sodium, protein and fluid. I built it for my own use first, and it still gets designed that way: if a feature doesn't survive a bad week after a session, it doesn't ship.
The app photographs a meal and estimates those numbers against daily targets — described in detail on the food photo analysis page. The targets themselves come from published clinical guidelines, listed on the medical sources page.
What I am not
I am not a doctor, a nephrologist or a dietitian, and I have no clinical training. Everything I write is my own experience as a patient, plus what I have read in guidelines and labelling rules. It is educational, not medical advice, and it is not personalised to anyone's labs or prescriptions. Your targets, your binders and your diet belong to your own renal team.
What I write about
Labels, phosphorus and potassium, eating out, and the habits that actually hold up on dialysis. It's all on the blog.

renalee is free to start, and tracks the four numbers a renal diet is organised around.
